BICHOLIM: The Bicholim Municipal Council (BMC) has several pending issues on which the fate of the candidates would be decided.
As per the sources the most important is that of the road work taken up by the municipality. Some of them are sour as they feel that not all road work is taken up by the municipality. There are many areas where hot mixing was not done.
There are many who are also upset over the road widening work taken up from Walshi to Bicholim in which they lost their land and compound walls. Delimitation of the wards has also affected many aspiring candidates.
“There is major issue of house tax. It is increasing day by day. There is House tax, garbage collection tax and a separate garbage collection tax for those who have kept people on rent. The new committee should do away with so many taxes. Inspite of all this there is no fine for those who throw garbage on the roadside.” Amrut Singh told.
During this tenure a new market complex building was set up but the shops are still to be allocated to their right owners. Besides this bandhara at Gaonkarwada, KTC bus stand, garbage issue, construction of fire station are also likely to be major issues for this BMC elections.
Many believe that BMC should be corruption free and have this time entered the fray.
“BMC should be corruption free. There should be proper gutters, especially on the highways. People should get ease of service in BMC and there should be accountability and all services should be time bound.” Bholanath Gad a candidate for the elections told.
“New panel, other than routine work of internal roads, street lights, gutters etc should concentrate on developmental projects that can help citizen get employment or do their own business. There are multiple schemes available fr public, BMC should educate them about different schemes and help them to avail the facilities with minimum efforts.” Nikhil Dixit from Bicholim told.
He says “There should be proper Transperancy in availing permissions required from municipality like for new shops n offices, establishments, construction of houses n different NOCs.
The BMC must carry out beautification projects which will be of multiple benefits like gardens where kids can play on grass n others n walk on walking tracks around play ground” Dixit told adding “One more major issue BMC needs to work on is insufficient parking space. There is an urgent need of sewage treatment plant also if it comes under BMCs capacity.”
Satyawan Harmalkar from Bicholim says there should be proper maintenance of Shivaji ground, full and proper utilisation of Ganesh shed at market, proper parking facility, proper allocation of market, proper gutter in all ward, ball these things should be taken up on priority” told .
“The BMC should maintain cleanliness and greenery thereby protecting environment. Create New job opportunities for youth” Dr Dinesh Amonkar says adding “Regular supply of clean potable water, regular Health check ups for poor and needy citizens especially ladies and senior citizens”
He states that there should be Special Concessions in Municipal taxes e.g House tax for poor and needy. He demanded easy accessibility to administrative works through digitalization.
Dr Amonkar said that BMC should create special funds for providing scholarship to needy students to pursue Higher education and encourage local artists and artisans.
“We need an accountable, creative and enthusiastic Committee that upholds strong values, with a clear vision for the betterment of society”, Cazetan Vaz said.
