CANACONA: Canacona police have provided security cover to Canacona Junior Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Judge Smita Sail, following the receipt of a death threat through a postal letter at the court.
Judge Smita Sail received the threatening letter on 24th June at the Court and promptly alerted Canacona police, filing an official complaint regarding the threat to her life.
The letter, purportedly from one Virendra Cankonkar of Diwanbagh-Canacona, contained a menacing message.
Upon discovery of the letter by court staff during the routine opening of daily correspondence, the Judge was notified of its contents. Subsequently, the Police were promptly informed, and an official complaint was registered.
Although Canacona police has not divulged details to journalists, it is understood that the letter was posted at the Canacona (Chaudi) Post Office on 20th June and was discovered in the daily mail at the JMFC court on 24th June.
Reports suggest that authorities have requested CCTV footage from the vicinity of the Canacona post office, where the Postal box is located, to aid in the investigation of this matter.
It has been learned that the Judge is now under police protection, with at least three police personnel, including a female officer, providing security. Furthermore, the Judge is accompanied by security personnel to and from the courthouse.
