VASCO: Jobs for Goans in Goa Shipyard Ltd has turned fodder for politics for the leaders of various political parties, says Vasco MLA Krisna (Daji) Salkar.
Revolutionary Goans claim that they have been assured by the GSL to give jobs to Goans, whereas on the other hand, Vasco BJP MLA Salkar and BJP leaders claim their efforts have played a major role in highlighting this employment issue.
On Wednesday, Revolutionary Goans leader Tukaram(Manoj) Parab and St.Andre MLA Viresh Borkar met Goa Shipyard Ltd Management over the issue of employment opportunities for Goans.
Addressing the media persons, Parab and Borkar of Revolutionary Goans claimed that the GSL management has assured them to prioritise recruiting Goans for jobs from GSL.
According to the information available, they said over 600 jobs had come recently in GSL, but only 30 per cent of Goans were employed. In other central government shipyards from other states there, local people with local language are preferred, but in GSL, it was happening opposite.
Revolutionary Goans leaders also stressed that technical skill training needs to be given to the Goan youths in ITIs, Polytechnic colleges and other technical institutions.
Meanwhile, Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar posted on his official social media page, “Grateful to Chief Minister Goa Dr.PramodPSawant for calling this meeting on our request with TN Sudhakar CMD (Addl. Charge) and HR Head Goa Shipyard Limited to address the long pending issues pertaining to local employment.
We have been assured that our employment issues with Vascokars will be taken up on priority.
Also present for this meeting were Deepak Naik Councillor MMC/ ex-Chairman KTCl and Nandadeep Raut, Former Chairperson MMC”.
Looking at these two incidences, the politicians have got enough fodder to do politics over the employment issue. It will be interesting to see in the coming days how many youths will be really going to get skill trained and jobs in GSL.
