PANAJI: A 40-year-old Kolhapur laborer was arrested by Goa’s Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) on Monday after he allegedly threatened Mumbai police with a bomb.
The man allegedly called Bandra railway police in Mumbai from Verna, Goa, and threatened to blow up Chembur police station, according to sources. Mumbai police responded quickly, tracking down the call in Goa and notifying local officials at approximately 6:30 p.m.
Goa police used sophisticated monitoring and followed the suspect to Colvale with the help of ATS. Around 8 p.m., he was taken into prison.
The accused was turned over to Colvale police because he was being held within their jurisdiction, according to an ATS official. For additional legal actions, Goan authorities are working with Mumbai police.
According to police reports, the accused has spent the last four years living in Goa with his family. To determine the reason behind the hoax call, investigations are being conducted.
