Canacona.
Though the underpass below the railway track at Kindlem was constructed after the procession of Lord Mallikarjun devotees was held a few days back, citizens cutting across religions welcomed the move and appreciated the Konkan Railway officials for being proactive to the demand of the locals.
The procession of the Lord Mallikarjun winds it’s way by the traditional way to the Rajbagh beach; and since the KRC laid the tracks in nineties by filling soil and elevating the rail road by about 10mt above the ground level the devotees had to climb steep steps on either side of the tracks and had to cross the uneven portion on the tracks inconveniencing everyone.
KRC after being informed about the inconvenience to the devotees every year during the procession, halted the trains for about five hours and constructed an underpass on Friday to the satisfaction of all.
Santos Gaonkar an eductionist and former chairperson of Canacona Municipal Council speaking with this correspondent appreciated the efforts of local KRC officials in constructing the underpass in record time.
“The procession of our God Shri Mallikarjun was held a few days ago and the bypass was ready only yesterday but the trouble of the devotees have ended from now on, since last 25 years the devotees both old and young in hundreds used to climb the stairs
from one side and get down on the other side”.
“We are thankful to the KRC for listening to the grievances of the locals at last” said Gaonkar.
