Lazy Boys FC proved their prowess against Varian Brothers in the tie-breaker, 5-3, to emerge champions in the final of 1st all-Goa 5-a-side Futsal tournament organised by Verna Sports Club, at the The Kings turf, Verna, recently. AZ
Clencio Pinto was the star for Lazy Boys FC as he netted both the goals to complete his brace, while Savio Pereira and Sherwin Fernandes were the goal scorers for Varian Brothers.
Both the teams were locked at 2-2 at the end of regulation time. In the resultant tie-breaker, Lazy Boys FC proved to be the better shooters, 3-1.
Leandrra Paulla Pacheco, daughter of Micky Pacheco was the chief guest and former India international footballer and Executive Member of All India Football Federation Climax Lawrence was the guest of honour, while special invitees were former Verna SC player Alvito Rodrigues, Mohammedan Sporting Club Beneston Barreto, former Verna sarpanch Loren Fernandes, panch and former president of Verna Sports Club Remegio Fernandes, panch Jessica Fernandes and former physical education director of Carmel College Olavo Gama.
Verna Sports Club President Sancen Fernandes, Secretary Jolan D’Silva, Sports Secretary Noel D’Silva, Organising Secretary Savio Fernandes and Assistant Treasurer Remedios Fernandes were also present.
Dempo Sports Club player Necio Fernandes was felicitated by Climax
for representing Goa State football team in the Santosh Trophy 2024. Other players felicitated were Joaquim Abranches, former India International; Fulgencio Cardozo, Indian Super League winning team player and Hilton Fernandes, All India Football Federation Futsal Championship runners-up.
The winners were richer by Rs 40,000 and a trophy, while the runners-up took home Rs 30,000 and a trophy.
Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by Fr Lucio Dias, parish priest of Holy Cross Church, Verna.
Sancen Fernandes, president of Verna Sports Club, proposed a vote of thanks at the end of prize distribution ceremony.
