MARGAO: Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco has issued a warning to the Chief Officer of Margao Municipality, urging resolution of the leachate flow issue.
“I have issued a warning to the Chief Officer of Margao Municipality, urging resolution of the leachate flow issue. I have also cautioned about the potential action of blocking garbage trucks if the problem persists,” said Reginaldo speaking to media after a brief inspection.
He further said that he came face to face with the agitated residents as they questioned the failure of the authorities.
“I have told the CO that none of the trucks should not leak. It is their business to make it work. I have warned them. If this is the same problem I will stop the trucks,”: he added
Reginaldo said that it was he who called the Fire & Emergency Services right away and they sent a fire tender to clean up the waste and hose wash the road.
“I called the Margao municipality, but they didn’t answer. It’s astonishing that they did nothing even after learning that five riders had fallen in less than 20 minutes. This is the civic body acting with complete negligence. With MMC, I will address this matter seriously,” Lourenco declared.
The Curtorim MLA asserted that the matter falls under the jurisdiction of the Margao Municipal Council.
In response to the residents’ grievances, Reginaldo maintained that he visited the site to fulfil his duty as an elected representative.
At the Sonsodo waste disposal site, a confrontation between Curtorim Independent MLA Reginaldo Lourenco and irate locals occurred due to a leachate spill, which sparked tense conversations.
When the MLA was questioned by the locals regarding the authorities’ disregard for the leachate spill and its effects on the community, a confrontation broke out. MLA Reginaldo Lourenco and some residents got into a verbal duel as tempers flared.
