SANCOALE: The Department of Legal Metrology has booked 43 cases and seized goods worth Rs 10 lakhs in a drive across Goa ahead of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival.
Speaking to reporters, Nitin Purushan, Assistant controller, said the seized goods include firecrackers, dry fruits and sweets.
“The department has booked 43 cases, which include 23 package cases and 20 enforcement cases. The total seized goods are worth Rs 10 lakhs,” he said.
The controller said that they had information that there were items without declaration on account of the festival, some short delivery issues, etc.
“The seized goods in the package cases include firecrackers, dry fruits and sweets. Some items did not have MRP, and some items had MRP smudged. We will continue this drive,” stated Purushan.
He asked the shopkeepers and businessmen to check that package commodities must have complete names and details of the manufacturer and full details of the importer and country of origin in case goods are imported.
“The items must also have month and year of manufacture or pre-packing and import date for imported goods. Thirdly, the goods must have net quantity details along with MRP. The items must also have a customer care address with the complete name and address of the person, or the company who can be contacted in case of a consumer complaint, as per the directives of the Supreme Court” said Purushan.
