CURCHOREM: Locals from the Xeldem panchayat area are afraid to come out of their houses after dusk due to the free movement of Leopards in their residential locality. CCTV cameras caught the movement of leopards moving near homes in Xeldem.
For the last eight days, there has been a scare among the people from the housings board colony and Karmali estate at Sonfator Xeldem panchayat area of Curchorem.
It could be seen in CCTV footage that there is the leopard movement at night in the housing board colony and Karmali estate, where leopards are seen in their backyard and sometimes sitting on the compound wall of a house. Locals have informed that there has been an incident where leopards caught two-three dogs from this area which has created more panic among the people.
Now residents from this area are afraid to come out during the night time and most of them avoid coming out after 8 pm at night.
Local resident Avish Sawant Desai said that
For the last eight days, locals of the housing board colony and Karmali estate at sonfator have been scared due to the free movement of leopards in our residential area. We have already complained to the Forest department, and they already put a trap in the particular place for leopards, but nothing happened.
RFO Quepem Siddesh Gawade said we got complaints about leopards moving into the residential area of the housing board colony and Karmali estate. Later our team went there, and we found that on CCTV footage leopard was seen. We have put a trap, but for the last five days, leopards are not seen in any CCTV footage. We are keeping an eye on the situation, RFO Gawade said.
