PANAJI: Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Goa today has forecasted a red alert for Goa on June 23 signalling the imminent threat of heavy rainfall.
IMD’s latest nowcast weather warning paints a picture of moderate to heavy rainfall, coupled with strong winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour, with gusts peaking at 60 mph.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely at a few places with extremely heavy showers at isolated places, IMD said.
In response to the impending weather conditions, the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has swung into action, activating control centres in both the North and South Goa districts.
With extremely heavy rains anticipated, SDMA urged the public to exercise caution, advising against venturing into waterlogged or flood-prone areas to minimize risks to life and property.
Residents and tourists are urged to stay updated on official advisories and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety amidst the looming weather threat.
