PORVORIM: Tourism Minister Rohan A. Khaunte announced that river cruises in Goa will now be required to showcase Goan art, music and serve traditional snacks from Goan cuisine.
This move aims to promote the local art, culture, traditions & traditional Goan cuisine items. River cruise operators will be given, an one-month deadline to implement these new measures, ensuring an authentic Goan experience for tourists.
Addressing a Press Conference after the meeting with Tourism stakeholders and key officials from the Department of Tourism, Tourism Minister Khaunte emphasized that this action will provide an opportunity for Goan artists to showcase their talent while supporting their livelihoods.
Tourism Minister Khaunte also stated that this initiative aims to elevate the tourism experience by incorporating elements that reflect Goa’s unique cultural and culinary heritage. He further said that these measures will apply to river cruises offering one hour rides & are registered with the Department of Tourism.
He further expressed the confidence that this move will not only enhance the river cruise experience but also contribute to the promotion of Goa’s vibrant cultural traditions.
The minister also stated that the meeting included discussions on topics pertaining to the Santa Monica Jetty. He mentioned that a clear coordination framework would be established between the operators managing the jetty and those running the boat cruises. This framework aims to ensure smooth operations, avoid conflicts, and provide a seamless experience for both operators and tourists.
