PANAJI: A mother and daughter from Delhi have been taken into custody by Panaji police for allegedly stealing a diamond bangle valued at Rs 1.32 lakh from a jewelry store.
The showroom staff filed a complaint alleging that two women had entered the store as customers on Thursday night under the guise of purchasing diamond bangles.
They asked to see several more ornaments, diverting the attendant’s attention, and in the haste they stole a 14.14-gram diamond bangle from the tray.
The 60-year-old Geeta Chopra and the 39-year-old Anju Chopra were taken into custody in Delhi after a CCTV investigation. They will be produced before the court for remand after being transported to Goa on transit remand. The pilfered item has been found.
The women are charged under Section 380 (theft) read with Section 34 (common intention) of the IPC.
