PANJIM: Terming it as ‘Murder of Democracy’ the United Opposition on Monday called on Goa Governor Satya Pal Malik seeking his intervention after Speaker of State Legislative Assembly disallowed adjournment motion to discuss on Covid pandemic in the State.
The opposition comprising of Congress, GFP, MGP and Independent MLA pointed out to Governor that the State budget 2020-21 was passed by House without proper discussion and requested not to grant his Assent to the government Bills, passed by the Assembly during the half day long session
“Today, the Government of Goa has murdered the Democracy byrejecting discussion on Covid Pandemic and passing the State Budget for
2020 -21 without proper discussion in the Goa Legislative Assembly. The Government displayed its insensitive approach towards the Health &
Wellbeing of the people by rejecting the Adjournment Motion moved by the Opposition MLA’s demanding discussion on the Covid Pandemic in the State
of Goa.” the Opposition stated
The memorandum states that “The Government has passed Record Business in the shortest time including Eighty Six Demands, Eleven Bills and Passing of the Goa Appropriation Bill (No. 2) Bill, 2020 and Supplementary Demands for Grants for the year 2020 -21 (First Batch) without any
discussion.”
The Opposition further lamented that the spread of Corona Virus and rising cases of Covid19 patients in the State of Goa is a matter of serious concern. There is fear in the minds of the people due to the failure in handling and is agement of the Covid Pandemic by Government of Goa.
Leader of Opposition, Digambar Kamat said that lockdowns have also resulted in disrupting all the business activities in the State, which has affected every household budget.
“The Government has not given any financial assistance to the marginalized sector and is yet toannounce Economic Revival Plan for the State of Goa.” he said
The Opposition further said the government has failed to release a White Paper on the Covid Pandemic and Financial Status of the State. There is a need to pay Urgent Attention to these Crises. “There are issues which will cause severe
destruction to the Environment and needs to be addressed on topmost priority.” They said
Meanwhile, the Opposition has strongly requested the governor not to give Assent to the Business transacted in the Goa Legislative Assembly.
“We also demand that a full-fledged Assembly Session may be convefed to discuss on all the issues of prime importance such as Covid Pandemic, Financial Status of the State,
Economic Revival Plan, Environmental issues etc.” the Opposition said
