MARGAO: Navelim Villagers Union scored a 1-0 goal victory over United Club of Seraulim to enter into the quarterfinals of the All Goa Navelim Villagers Union trophy organised by Navelim Villagers Union at Rosary Church ground Navelim on Saturday
The match started at a fast pace and Navelims forward Prestly Gomes, Ronald Pereira and Nash tried to score goals but neither the defence of Seraulim Nor the goalkeeper came in their way so Seraulim Gladstone, Dylan and Keith also wasted the opportunity that came in their way, both teams showed urgency to score goals but couldn’t break the deadlock and remained 0-0 till the half time.
The all-important goal came from the penalty kick as Navelim player was brought down in the danger area and Refree Raja Pir awarded a penalty which was well converted by Ronaldo Pereira in the 56th minute of play.
In the dying minutes of the game, Jit Gupta goalkeeper of Navelim Villagers saved two attempts made by Seraulim and turned the game in Navelim’s favour.
Ronaldo Pereira of Navelim Villagers Union was outstanding on the field with long-range passes and accurate shoot passes and was awarded man of the match by Micky Rebello former Salgaocar player and GFDC Coach
