New Delhi: General Dhiraj Seth on Thursday called on Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi, days after assuming office as the country’s new Army Chief.
The meeting took place at Kartavya Bhavan and marked one of General Seth’s first official engagements with the political leadership since taking over as the 31st Chief of the Army Staff on June 30. Photographs from the meeting were shared by the Defence Minister’s Office.
General Seth assumed command of the Indian Army at a crucial time as the force continues its push towards greater self reliance, technological modernisation and operational readiness while addressing evolving security challenges along India’s borders.
An accomplished military leader, General Seth brings with him extensive operational experience and is among the few officers to have commanded two operational Army formations along the western front. Over the course of a distinguished military career spanning nearly four decades, he has served across diverse terrains and conflict zones, including counter insurgency operations.
He succeeded General Upendra Dwivedi, who retired earlier this week after serving the armed forces for more than 40 years.
A graduate of the National Defence Academy in Khadakwasla, General Seth was commissioned into the Armoured Corps in December 1986 and has since held several important command and staff appointments.
On Wednesday, the new Army Chief was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour on the lawns of South Block, formally marking the beginning of his tenure at the helm of the 1.3 million strong Indian Army.
