New Delhi: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has triggered fresh speculation about his political future after saying that the younger generation should be given an opportunity to take on greater responsibilities.
Speaking at an Eklavya Ekal Vidyalaya teacher and supervisor training programme in Katol, Nagpur district, Gadkari reflected on his three decades in public life and the highs and lows he has experienced during his political career.
Gadkari said he had worked continuously in public life for around 30 years and received several honours during the journey. He then indicated that he could not continue working at the same pace and stressed the need to give the next generation an opportunity.
The comments have prompted political discussions about whether the senior BJP leader could eventually consider stepping away from active politics. However, Gadkari has not announced his retirement, and his remarks do not amount to a formal declaration that he intends to leave public life.
The Road Transport and Highways Minister also spoke about changes to his daily routine since the COVID 19 pandemic. He recalled a period when his demanding political schedule often involved irregular meals and little attention to routine.
Gadkari said he has since adopted a more disciplined lifestyle and now practises yoga regularly. He emphasised that maintaining good health is more important than power or position.
The minister also spoke about the importance of making the most of life and maintaining a positive outlook.
Gadkari further expressed concern over the continuing problem of farmer suicides and highlighted the need for greater attention to the agricultural community.
He indicated that supporting farmers and improving their economic conditions remain among the areas where he wants to contribute during the remaining years of his public life.
His latest remarks come at a time when speculation is already circulating in political circles about possible changes in the Union Cabinet and ministerial responsibilities.
