PANJIM: With rising number of Covid-19 cases in Goa and shortage of space, the Health Minister Vishwajit Rane today announced that the state government will be converting the South Goa District Hospital into a dedicated Covid Hospital with 400-500 capacity.
Rane also informed that Goa Medical College (GMC) will continue to manage and treat critical COVID patients.
The decision was taken after a joint consultation with Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant.
“After joint consultation with Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, we shall be converting the South Goa District Hospital into a dedicated COVID Hospital with 400-500 bed capacity, in addition to ESIC and Sub-District Hospital Ponda,” said Rane
He said that GMC will continue to manage and treat critical COVID patients.
“We have appointed Sunanda Amonkar & Rajesh Patil to manage COVID operations at the South Goa District Hospital along with Medical Superitendent Dr Deepa Correia.” The health minister informed
Meanwhile, CM Dr Pramod Sawant taking it to Twitter stated that his government is committed for giving better treatment and medical facilities to the people of Goa.
“In view of the rising cases of Covid19 in the state, our Government has taken a decision to designate the new South Goa District Hospital as an additional Covid Hospital.” Dr Sawant tweeted
GPCC Chief Girish Chodankar today had demanded to drop all privatisation plans of South Goa District Hospital and make it fully functional in next 15 days to give healthcare to people failing which Congress-be compelled to launch huge agitation.
Also, Goa Forward Party (GFP) President Vijai Sardesai today had threatened to knock the door of the judiciary if government fails to open two floors of a new Hospicio hospital building to facilitate COVID patients.
