New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has widened its investigation into the Pahalgam terror attack, revealing in its chargesheet that it is examining possible links between Pakistan-based terror outfits and the Gaza-based militant group Hamas.
In a significant development, the agency stated that further investigation is required to determine whether the accused organisation—identified as Lashkar-e-Taiba and its proxy outfit The Resistance Front—has operational or ideological connections with Hamas and other international terrorist organisations.
According to the chargesheet, investigators are continuing to examine possible links between the accused and groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed, Al-Qaeda and its affiliates, along with Hamas and other global extremist networks.
The disclosure is notable because it is believed to be the first time India’s premier anti-terror agency has formally included Hamas within the scope of an ongoing terrorism investigation while exploring its potential connections with Pakistan-backed groups operating against India.
Officials say the investigation remains open and is focused on understanding the nature and extent of any cooperation, support mechanisms, or operational linkages between these organisations. The probe forms part of a broader effort to map international networks that may have influenced, facilitated or supported terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir.
Security agencies are also examining intelligence inputs suggesting increased interactions between Hamas and Pakistan-based terror groups in recent years. Investigators are reportedly analysing financial transactions, digital communications, recruitment patterns and cross-border networks connected to the attack.
The NIA’s findings could provide important insights into the evolving relationship between regional terrorist outfits and transnational extremist organisations, helping authorities assess emerging threats and strengthen counter-terrorism strategies. The investigation into the broader network behind the Pahalgam attack is ongoing.
