Jammu: The Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) conducted searches at six locations across Jammu and Kashmir on Friday as part of a crackdown on an alleged online recruitment network linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
The operation targeted a suspected module accused of using social media platforms to radicalise Kashmiri youth and recruit them into banned terrorist organisations.
The searches were carried out in Budgam, Srinagar, Bijbehara and Mattan in Anantnag district, along with a village in Pulwama. Local police and revenue officials assisted the operation, which was conducted in the presence of executive magistrates.
The raids were linked to a case registered around three years ago concerning an alleged terror recruitment network operating through social media. Investigators suspect that Pakistan-based handlers were coordinating the module in collaboration with Lashkar-e-Taiba and other banned outfits.
The network allegedly used online platforms to spread extremist ideology, influence young people and encourage activities against India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Among the properties searched was the residence of 22-year-old Mohammad Yaseen Mir, a graduate residing in Hokersar, Sheikh-ul-Alam Colony, Zainakote, Srinagar.
Investigators are also examining his family connections. His mother, Tabasum Shaheen, a Pakistani national, travelled to Pakistan on April 29 last year and has not returned to India since. Her continued contact with her son is among the aspects being examined as part of the investigation.
Another search was conducted at the residence of Peerzada Anayat Ullah Shah in Agrikalan, Magam, in Budgam district.
During the searches, investigators seized electronic devices, documents and other material suspected to be connected to the case. The seized items are being examined to identify possible links with cross-border handlers and establish the involvement of local contacts in the alleged recruitment network.
