PORVORIM: Minister for Animal Husbandry Nilkanth Halarnkar today informed that his department has been carrying on the drive to vaccinate the cows due to fear of Lumpy Skin Disease.
“22,000 vaccinations have been done. 32 cases of Lumpy Skin Disease have been found in Goa, and we are treating them. Not a single death has occurred,” said Halarnkar.
He further said that a goshala has created an isolation ward kind of place for such cases.
Halarnkar said that following social media posts, the department came across two fresh cases of Lumpy Skin Disease, and both animals are now kept in isolation.
“They were basically stray cattle,” he said.
Halarnkar further said that the ban on the import of cows is still in place due to possible fear of the spread of diseases.
The Minister said that every Panchayat has to ensure that they have a cattle pond in place as directed by the High Court. He said that the Directorate of panchayat should impose a fine on the Panchayat who do not follow directions.
In addition, he said that deworming tablets were distributed to dairy farmers free of cost and emergency medicines were procured and supplied to field establishments for judicious use in healthy and infected animals.
