Panaji: The Akhil Gomantak Kshatriya Maratha Samaj has appealed to the Goa Government to set up a welfare commission for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) belonging to the General Category, arguing that many financially vulnerable families remain outside the scope of existing welfare bodies.
The organisation said a dedicated commission would help address the educational, economic and social needs of people from the General Category who qualify under the EWS category but require greater institutional support.
Among its key demands are scholarships for school and college students, fee assistance for deserving candidates, financial aid for competitive examination coaching, housing assistance for needy families, and subsidised loans to encourage self-employment among unemployed youth.
The Samaj also stressed that members of the Kshatriya Maratha community have played an important role in Goa’s history and development and deserve equal access to welfare initiatives aimed at improving opportunities for economically weaker sections.
The organisation said it plans to submit a memorandum to Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, urging the government to consider the proposal and introduce targeted schemes to improve the socio-economic condition of EWS families from the General Category.
