PANAJI: Minister for Labour and Employment Babush Monserrate said that there does not exist any provision under Labour and Employment Department to ensure that the private companies employ Goans.

He further said that government has taken various steps taken to ensure that private companies provide jobs to Goans.
“To enroll/register in Employment Exchange, a valid 15 years Residence Certificate issued by competent authority is pre-requisite. Secondly, in view of Employment Exchange Compulsory Notification of Vacancies Act, 1959, establishments/companies notify the vacancies in Employment Exchange,” he added
Accordingly, Monserrate said that Employment Exchange sponsors the list of eligible candidates against notified vacancies.
Minister also said that Model Career Centre (MCC) under Regional Employment Exchange have organized Job Fairs & Placement Drives to bridge the gap between Job Seekers and Employers.
“In addition, Career Counselling / Career Guidance Programme, Soft Skill training, Sessions on Civil Service Competitive Exams (GPSC & UPSC), Banking Exams preparations and Entrepreneurship Orientation Programs have been organized in order to enhance the skills of jobseekers as per market requirement,” he added
Monserrate also said that government does not conduct any inspections to check that certain percentage of Goans are employed in these private establishment.
