ANJUNA: A tense situation prevailed in Anjuna Caisua as the Anjuna Caisua locals blocked the road towards Vagator beach for the failure of PWD and the government to give proper drinking water supply to the village.
Locals demanded answers from the authorities on the water supply stoppage in the area.
The PWD officials said that water comes Assonora plant, and the pressure is less, so the water does not reach the area.
The people rubbished the excuses and demanded to know what is the solution.
Anjuna Caisua sarpanch Savio Almeida, youth leader Gajanan Tilve, Yogesh (Mogembo) and prominent leaders were present for the protest.
They said that there was no water in the area for the past one month.
“How do you want us to survive?” the people asked.
The PWD engineers said that a new 5MLD storage tank is coming up at Siolim, which would solve the problem.
However, the locals alleged the water was being diverted to big hotels.
The people also blamed the panchayat for granting permissions to hotels and big constructions.
Almeida said that panchayat has taken a resolution for not granting permission for any new commercial construction.
The villagers also shouted, “No Water, No Road.”
“We do not have 16000 litres of free water of Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, but we want a proper water supply. The free water is just an election gimmick; the CM must come here and see the situation,” they said.
Gajanan Tilve said successive governments and MLAs have ignored the water supply issue in Siolim and Anjuna.
