PANAJI: All relevant officials have received a circular from the State Electricity Department requesting that they forward all applications for electricity connections made under the Goa Public Health Act to them in order to secure government approval.
“It is enjoined upon all the concerned officials to route all applications for electricity connection applied for under Goa Public Health Act to this office for obtaining government approval in the matter,” stated Chief Electrical Engineer Stephen Fernandes in the circular.
“A site inspection report covering the technical aspects of the applications must be included, along with a duly signed confirmation from the concerned junior engineer as to whether the premises are occupied by the applicant or not,” he stated.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant stated on Tuesday that the government will not permit the approval of utility connections under the Health Act since owners of properties that were built unlawfully abuse its provisions to obtain electricity and water connections.
He emphasized that the High Court has issued orders prohibiting the provision of water and electrical connections to illegally constructed homes.
