KOLKATA: South Africa’s Rassie van der Dussen has shared his thoughts on their upcoming clash against India in the ODI World Cup 2023, set to take place at the iconic Eden Gardens on Sunday, November 5.
South Africa setting big total while batting first
The Proteas have displayed remarkable performance in the tournament, with the exception of a minor setback against the Netherlands. Their ability to consistently post scores over 300 while batting first has placed immense pressure on their opposition. In their recent match, South Africa achieved a resounding 190-run victory over New Zealand.
Rassie van der Dussen’s outlook on South Africa’s next game against India
South Africa’s next challenge, however, is against the formidable Indian team, the only undefeated side in the tournament with seven consecutive wins. Facing India on their home turf will be a daunting task, but van der Dussen remained optimistic, emphasizing that they have successfully defeated the hosts on several occasions.
“The challenge is to be under pressure, to stay with that, and that’s what we’ll look to do. But we’ve played them here before and we’ve beaten them here before. So, in a sense, it’s, even though it’s a World Cup, it’s not really too much different. We won’t be looking at that too much. Yeah, if that answers your question,” said Van der Dussen.
Confidence and strategy
The 34-year-old cricketer also praised India’s prowess with both bat and ball, recognizing their experience and ability. Nevertheless, he underlined their belief in their game plan, asserting that executing it to perfection could help them secure a victory. Notably, in their previous two ODI World Cup meetings, India emerged victorious.
“So obviously, playing India in India is a massive event. They’ve been playing really well. A lot of experience in their team. They’ve got all bases covered, brilliant bowling attack and obviously the batting as well,” the Pretoria-born cricketer added.
