VASCO: The Old Vasco fish market shed will be demolished entirely within two days, and the foundation work of the new fish market complex project is likely to start within eight days, says Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar.
After the news reports surfaced in the media that the women fish vendors had decided to sit on the road outside the old fish market shed from Vasco and to take an overview of the demolition work, MLA Salkar visited the old fish market site on Friday morning along with the Chief Officer of MMC Jayant Tari and others.
The MLA Salkar, the Chief Officer of MMC Jayant Tari, and the municipal engineer inspected the old structure’s ongoing demolition and interacted with the local fish vendors.
Later, Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar said that the old shed structure would be totally demolished within two days. Right now, the asbestos sheets dismantling has been completed in this old shed.
He further added that the credit for shifting the women fish vendors in the new fish market shed goes to all people who are present and in the past who all tried to bring the new fish market project to the Vasco. It may be the former MLA Carlos Almeida, the Former municipal council and others currently in power. It is the victory of the people of Vasco.
When asked more, Salkar said that a group of individuals were instrumental in convincing the women fish vendors from the old market shed to shift into the new temporary market shed to bring a new market complex project to the old market shed.
He further said that the women fish vendors will perform some religious rituals at the new fish market shed and will start operating from the new shed shortly. I have assured them of full cooperation in terms of additional space, shed etc.
