BICHOLIM: The House of Abhinandan Lodha has decided to legally challenge the latest stop-work order issued by the Karapur panchayat against its ‘One Goa’ township project, maintaining that the development has all necessary approvals and should not be halted.
The developer said the directive was received on Friday evening, following which it reviewed the issues raised by opponents of the project. According to the company, the concerns being raised now largely repeat objections that have been aired during the past 161 days.
The firm pointed to previous stop-work directions issued in connection with the project, claiming that those orders were subsequently set aside by the competent appellate authority after it found no legal grounds to sustain them.
The developer said it would approach the appropriate authority to contest the latest order and seek its cancellation through the legal process.
The company maintained that construction at the Karapur site began only after the land was acquired in 2023-24 and the required statutory procedures, including the public objection process, were completed. It claimed that no objections were submitted during that process.
Maintaining that the project is legally compliant, the developer said it sees no valid legal reason for the construction to remain blocked and reiterated that commitments made to buyers would be honoured.
The company also referred to its operations in Goa over the past four years, citing completed developments as well as initiatives undertaken in education and corporate social responsibility.
Meanwhile, the developer has levelled allegations against some individuals opposing the project, claiming that threats, intimidation and demands for money were made during the course of the protests. It said police investigations into alleged extortion involving certain activists were ongoing.
The company also claimed that a Karapur panchayat member had been mentioned during those investigations, while stressing that the person was not among those who signed the latest stop-work directive.
The developer said it would continue to pursue the matter through legal channels and expressed confidence that the project would ultimately proceed. It reiterated that it intends to deliver the development as promised and remains committed to its customers.
