PORVORIM: The Opposition MLA created an uproar in Goa Assembly as they demanded discussion on the alleged corruption in Art and Culture funds.
Goa Assembly Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar refused to entertain Adjournment Motion to discuss alleged corruption in Art & Culture department.
Tawadkar had charged Gaude with embezzlement of the money via his department of art and culture. According to the speaker, funds were distributed to different clubs and organizations without the clubs hosting the corresponding events.
MLA Vijai Sardesai of the Goa Forward Party had proposed an adjournment motion on Monday in order to address the Speaker’s accusations.
Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao insisted that the Speaker’s grave accusations against the minister be discussed as soon as the Assembly convened on Monday.
Alemao claimed that the Speaker is being insulted by the fact that his issue has not been discussed on the House floor.
The speaker asked the opposing benches to take a seat so that the House could continue its business, rejecting the motion.
According to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, the House is not the appropriate place to discuss the matter. “The opposition ought to bring up the matter in the appropriate forum,” he declared.
The ruling benches persisted with the question hour despite the opposition’s attempts to press for their demands.
