PANAJI: Modern Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) will soon be installed in both of the state’s district hospitals, enabling easy storage and sharing of patient-related images with medical professionals, including reports, scans, and x-rays.
Under the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) Goa, the Goa government has floated a tended value of Rs 34 lakh for the implementation of PACS in both the North and South Goa District Hospitals.
In order to facilitate data sharing and give clinicians a more comprehensive understanding of a patient’s condition and course of treatment, the proposed PACS is anticipated to provide an electronic platform for images to interface with other automated health IT systems of DHS, such as a hospital information system (HIS), electronic health record (EHR), and radiology information system.
Additionally, a toll-free number and a round-the-clock call centre are anticipated to support the system. The agency/service provider will be appointed for a term of three years, subject to the invitation to tender.
Picture archiving and communication system (PACS) is a medical imaging technology used primarily in healthcare organizations to securely store and digitally transmit electronic images and clinically-relevant reports.
PACS is used to store, retrieve, present and share images produced by various medical hardware modalities, such as X-ray machines, computed tomography (CT) scans, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans and ultrasound machines
