New Delhi: A court in Patna on Monday reserved its order on the anticipatory bail plea of educator and YouTuber Faisal Khan, widely known as Khan Sir, who has been named in an FIR linked to a firing and vandalism incident at his coaching institute earlier this month.
Khan Sir approached the court seeking protection from arrest after police booked him under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act in connection with the June 2 incident outside the Khan Global Studies Institute.
Following the hearing, his counsel, Arvind Kumar Mahuar, told reporters that arguments had been completed and the court had reserved its decision. He maintained that the case against his client lacked merit and was intended to tarnish Khan Sir’s public image.
According to the defence, Khan Sir had no direct involvement in the incident and was allegedly implicated after members of his institute had previously lodged a complaint against the director of another coaching centre. The lawyer argued that the FIR was motivated and aimed at defaming the educator.
The controversy stems from a disturbance outside the coaching institute on June 2, during which shots were allegedly fired into the air. Police registered an FIR at Kadamkuan Police Station under Section 109 of the BNS and relevant provisions of the Arms Act against three individuals, including Khan Sir.
Investigators said a video recovered during the probe showed two men allegedly firing weapons following acts of vandalism at the institute. The two security guards seen in the footage were later identified and detained. Police also seized the firearms allegedly used in the incident and sent them for forensic examination.
Separately, a defamation suit has reportedly been filed before the Delhi High Court by journalist Anjana Om Kashyap and TV Today Network against Khan Sir over remarks allegedly made by him concerning her coverage of “star teachers.” The suit seeks the removal of purportedly defamatory content from online platforms and claims damages of ₹2 crore.
The court’s decision on Khan Sir’s anticipatory bail plea is awaited.
