VASCO: Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar, inaugurated the paver works worth ₹20 lakh at Belabai, a project spearheaded by ward councillor and Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Girish Borker.
Speaking to the media, Salkar highlighted the focus on equitable development across all 25 MMC wards. “I was a councillor for two terms and faced challenges due to being in the opposition. I realized then that people should not suffer because of political rivalry. As soon as I became the MLA, I instructed the Chairperson to ensure no differentiation between ruling and opposition wards. We have sanctioned ₹25 lakh worth of works in each of the 25 wards, amounting to ₹5.5 crores,” said Salkar.
He further outlined ongoing and upcoming developmental projects in Vasco. “We aim to provide proper footpaths, better illumination, and quality roads for everyone. Projects like the ₹7 crore MMC garden development at Baina have been approved, and we’ve obtained the necessary NOC from the Navy. Additionally, the ₹12 crore Swatantrata Path beautification project will begin this year,” said Salkar.
He also sought public cooperation for upcoming sewage pipeline works. “Vasco lacked sewerage lines for 50 years. We’ll be setting up five sewage pumping stations and request people to bear with any inconvenience caused during road digging.”
MMC Chairperson Girish Borker emphasized the importance of the project for Belabai, which had seen no development for 50 years. “I’m the first councillor to take up this work since MMC’s inception. Once this road is completed, we’ll focus on internal roads at Mestawada, Orulem, and laying new sewerage pipelines
We are also launching works on construction of a new culvert at Orulem,” said Borker.
He assured residents of improved infrastructure, including roads, water supply, and illumination, stating that these projects aim to enhance the quality of life in the region.
