CANACONA: Two village panchayats from Canacona taluka were honoured with Certificates of Excellence during the Viksit Goa Panchayat Sammelan held on the occasion of National Panchayati Raj Day 2026.
Village Panchayat Poinguinim received the Certificate of Excellence for achieving the highest score in Local Sustainable Development Goals (LSDGs). The award was presented to Sarpanch Savita Ramesh Tawadkar by Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in the presence of Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho.
Others present included Dy. Sarpanch Sunil Paingankar, panch members Satish Poinguinkar, Mahesh (Govind) Naik, Pravir Bhandari, Panchayat Secretary Rajiv K Naik Gaunkar and other officials.
Village Panchayat Agonda was awarded the Certificate of Excellence for Outstanding Commitment and Exemplary Performance in establishing and maintaining ‘Best Waste Management Facilities’. The citation was received by Agonda Sarpanch Nilesh Pagi in the presence of Minister Mauvin Godinho and Panchayat Secretary Amol K Naik Gaunkar.
Notably, Agonda was earlier shortlisted as the only panchayat from Goa for the National Panchayat Awards 2023 in the ‘Clean and Green’ category. The village was recognised on World Environment Day 2024 by the Government of India for its achievements in waste management.
