Following people’s protest the Village panchayat of Guleli, has rejected NOC for the IIT Goa compound wall project.
As the people continued their protest for over a week opposite panchayat and did not allow the authorities to demarcate the land, the panchayat had to succumb to pressure.
A villager Shankar Naik told goemkarponn.com that the villager this morning had gone to the panchayat to seek their reply on people’s demand.
“We were told that the file of NOC sent by the government has been returned back,” Naik said.
The State government had allotted 10 lakh square meter of land to IIT Goa and another 3 lakh was in the offing.
However, the villagers had protested saying that they had been cultivating the land for decades now. The government claims the entire land belongs to them.
