SOLAPUROn their way to Pandharpur for Ashadhi Ekadashi, a group of devotees was tragically interrupted by a fatal accident on the Solapur-Sangli National Highway.
The incident that took place at Kavathe Mahakal on Friday at approximately 11:45 am claimed the life of Gauri Gurudas Kudtarkar, a 65-year-old resident of Apa Colony, Karkyachoval-Revora.
Together with fellow devotee Surekha Shirodkar from Apa Colony, Revora, and driver Sabaji Gad from Mulgao, Kudtarkar was traveling in a Wagon R vehicle. As they neared the Solapur-Sangli highway, Gauri reportedly started to feel ill and moved to the back seat of the vehicle. Tragic events occurred while driver Sabaji Gad and Suresh Shirodkar were seated in the front seats.
An Innova registered in Telangana that was speeding rear-ended their car, resulting in a serious collision. Sadly, Gauri, who was sitting in the back, died instantly from her severe injuries. In the collision, Sabaji Gad and Suresh Shirodkar both suffered injuries.
Following the collision, the Innova’s driver and another occupant quickly left the scene. After quickly receiving the report, the Kawate Mahakal police launched a preliminary investigation. After being taken to a nearby hospital, the injured were given immediate medical attention.
The Kavathe Mahankal Police have taken the accused, Harshid Poreddy, of Andhra Pradesh, into custody.
