Margao, May 12: Police conducted an inspection and cleared beggars from the Pimpalkatta area in Margao following a complaint lodged by Margao New Market Traders Association Chairman Gopal Naik.
According to the complaint submitted to the Police Inspector on Monday, a large number of beggars had allegedly occupied the Pimpalkatta area and were refusing to vacate the spot despite repeated requests from traders and locals.
Naik also raised concerns over roadside vendors setting up stalls during morning hours on roads surrounding the market area, allegedly creating obstruction for commuters and customers.
He stated that the congestion had become so severe that even two-wheeler parking in the area had become difficult.
Following the complaint, police personnel visited the site and carried out an inspection on Tuesday. Authorities subsequently removed the beggars from the area and restored movement in the vicinity.
Traders have demanded continued monitoring of the area to prevent further encroachment and ensure smooth access for shoppers and vehicles near the market complex.
