PANAJI: Goa Police today has detained around 40 odd students along with NSUI Goa Chief Ahraz Mulla for protesting outside CM Sawant’s official residence demanding postponement/cancellation of board exams.
The students protested by displaying placards with some of them reading ‘Exams in Covid is suicide,’ ‘Exams should be postponed, students lives matter’, ‘Students fighting two pandemics Covid and Stupidity.
A student said that 69,000 people comprising students, parents and fellow Goans have signed an online petition demanding that the exams be cancelled.
While they are also okay with it being held online, they said they are protesting against the holding of offline exams, meaning where students have to visit centres physically to answer their exams.
“The impact of the corona virus pandemic can not only destroy one’s but many lives ,since now it’s at peak level it’s better to have the exams cancelled at such circumstances,” protesting students said
They added, “To be safe and healthy is the first priority of any Government and we are the future. By conducting such exams our lives can be endangered .My sincere request to the Goa Board , please do take steps properly and by thinking twice,”
Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHE) said that both Class 10 and 12 exams will be held as per schedule.
