SANGUEM: Despite the work on the new SAG ground at Malkarne, the ground is yet to be inaugurated due to “political reasons”.
The project of SAG ground in Gaonkarwada, Malkarne was started in 2017 and although the work of these project has finished long back, it is yet to be inaugurated.
According to some locals, there are political reasons behind the delay.
They say that the disputes between ex MLA Subash Faldesai and present MLA of Sanguem Prasad Gaonkar constituency is the only reason why this ground has not been opened to the public.
But the panchayat says the lockdown is only reason behind delay in inauguration.
“The inauguration is delayed due to this pandemic. The statewide lockdown is the only reason behind the delay. We had a meeting regarding the same last week in which it has been decided that as soon as the lockdown is called off the ground will be inaugurated” informed Panch Sandesh Gaonkar.
“The work of this project was started in 2017, and the cost of this project has reached to 2.91 crore as the work is getting delayed again and again. We shall maintain vigilance” he further added.
“For the welfare of the village, the politicians must keep aside the wrangles,” adviced Shambhu gaonkar, an elderly citizen of the village.
“If there are good things happening then one must not stop it for their own disputes, the ground is the sign of development in the village, and hence I request the respective authorities not to delay the inauguration” said Saba Gaonkar.
