PANAJI: Damodar (Damu) Naik has been officially announced as the State President of Bharatiya Janata Party, Goa Pradesh, in the presence of Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant and BJP National General Secretary Sunil Bansal.
The post became vacant after the tenure of outgoing President Sadanand Shet Tanavade ended. Damu Naik filed his nomination in the presence of central election observer Sunil Bansal, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, outgoing State President Sadanand Shet Tanavade, and others.
Speaking to mediapersons, Damu Naik said, “I thank all the BJP members, new and old, because of whom an ordinary worker of the party has reached to such a post.”
With the approval of senior members and the assistance of both young and seasoned party workers, Naik stated that his main goal would be to fortify the party’s organization. He claimed that with 15 crore members worldwide and 4.5 lakh in Goa, the BJP is arguably the only political party with that many.
Being in charge of such a large and democratic party in the state of Goa makes me feel honored. He declared, “I will continue the tradition that has been left by our leaders, Shripad Naik, Rajendra Arlekar, Laxmikant Parsekar, and the late Manohar Parrikar.”
Naik added that he would uphold the party’s principles and programs for the benefit of the populace, prioritizing the country, the party, and the person.
At the age of six, Naik, a member of the Bhandari community, joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). In 1994, he became a karyakarta in the BJP, and in 1999, he became involved in state politics.
He was elected as an MLA in 2002 from the Fatorda constituency in South Goa, a position he kept in the 2007 assembly elections. He has served in the party in a number of capacities over the years. From 2002 to 2006, he served as president of the Goan Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha.
He has served as the party’s state spokesperson and general secretary since 2012. He served as the Entertainment Society of Goa’s vice chairperson from April 2014 to September 2016.
The BJP has achieved 13 crore primary memberships across India. New members are encouraged to join, as this party is the world’s largest mass organization. Goa has successfully secured a spot among the top 5 states in achieving the targets set by the party, said BJP National General Secretary Sunil Bansal.
