Ponda Double Murder Case Solved; one arrested

*Police say motive was a dispute over a loan which the victim was insisting the accused to return

PONDA: Goa Police have finally cracked the double murder case and has arrested Mahadev Ghadi for committing murder of two senior citizens.

Police said that the accused was known to the victim and that the motive was a dispute over a loan which the victim was insisting the accused to return.

“We have arrested Mahadev s/o Durga Ghadi, age-34yrs, r/o Surla-Bicholim on charges of murder, further investogation is in progress,” said SSP South Goa

Two sisters Jeevan Kamath (68) and Mangala Kamath (76) were found brutally murdered yesterday at their residence using a sharp weapon.

As per information, a telephonic call was received at Ponda Police Station informing that two ladies are lying in a pool of blood at in a kitchen room of a flat No B-1, on a first floor at Super Market Complex Kaziwada, Ponda Goa.

Police team Visited the scene and it was observed that two ladies namely Smt. Mangala Kamat w/o late Tulshidas Kamat, age 75yrs, and her sister Ms. Jeevan Kamat d/o Venkatesh Kamat, age 65yrs, both r/o Flat No: B-I, Second Phase, Supermarket, Kaziwada, Ponda, Goa were murdered by unknown person.

During the course of investigation several teams were formed and tasked to build specific leads with investigation. The case was investigated through various angles in order to identify the accused. Several people were interrogated and combing and search operation of the entire area was conducted. Verification of antecedent of migrants and all persons connected to the victim family was also conducted.

The CCTV footage of in and around of place of offence was checked. The details of cell phone were also verified and one Mahadev Ghadi s/o Durga Ghadi, age 34years, Occ: Private Service, r/o H. No: 343, Near Laxminarayan Temple, Bayem Surla, Bicholim, Goa was apprehended.

During the interrogation he confessed of commission of crime and disclosed that he had borrowed a Loan from the deceased Jeevan Kamat and since she was pressing him hard to return her amount, he killed Jeevan Kamat and thereafter her sister Mangala Kamat when she intervened to rescue her by using deadly weapon. Accused is working as a operator in a private company at Verna IDC.
