PONDA: Freedom fighters from Ponda have opposed the organisation of commercial bazaars at Kranti Maidan, raising concerns over the use of the historic ground for market activities.
Following a recent exhibition-cum-sale organised under the name of Diwali Bazaar, the freedom fighters gathered at the Ponda Municipal Council and met the Chief Officer to convey their objections.
They made it clear that they do not want any bazaar or commercial marketplace to be organised at Kranti Maidan. However, they clarified that they have no objection to festive decorations and traditional Diwali-related activities, provided these do not transform the historic venue into a commercial marketplace.
The freedom fighters emphasised that Kranti Maidan holds immense historical significance and that its dignity and sanctity must be preserved.
They urged the Ponda Municipal Council to take their concerns into consideration while deciding on future events and activities at the venue.
