PANAJI: Secretary Revenue and Chairman, State Disaster Management Authority Sandip Jacques, IAS held a meeting with the Officials of Government Department and reviewed pre monsoon preparedness measures at Secretariat Porvorim. The Secretary emphasized the need for proactive preparation to mitigate the challenges posed by the impending monsoon season.
Secretary Revenue informed that the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted an early and heavy monsoon this year. Consequently, appealed to all authorities to be prepared for any emergencies that may arise. Training to adequate staff and preparedness is necessary to save life during any disaster he emphasized.
Jacques highlighting the disaster occurred in Mumbai due to hoarding asked concerned authorities to maintain vigil for any disaster. These measures are aimed at ensuring a swift and effective response to any adverse situations during the monsoon period he emphasized .
Jacques stated that what is more important is to be prepared and proactive and ensure that everybody will be available 24X7. He also instructed all the Departments to be more active in hazardous areas which are already identified in the state by past experience such as landslides, floods and dangerous trees which affect the common man.
The Additional Collectors of both the collectorates informed that control rooms have been setup equipped with adequate infrastructure to handle potential crisis.
Jacques also took stock of all the line Departments. He instructed the CCP and Panaji Smart City to take maximum precaution before the monsoon. Shri Jacques also suggested to install SACHET mobile App which provides alert of a possible y disaster
The meeting deliberated on functioning of Control Rooms, identification of Flood and Landslide Prone areas and evacuation plan in case of disasters emergencies, desilting of drains, gutters, nullahs, status of smart City Works among others
