PANAJI: Hotelier Gajendra Singh alias Chotu held in the Souza Lobo restaurant attack case has been granted bail. He is the prime accused in the case.
On December 28, 2021, the Souza Lobo Restaurant in Calangute was attacked by 10 to 15 persons causing grievous injuries to several persons and loss to property worth Rs 30 lakh.
Twenty five accused persons involved in the dastardly attack were booked, 19 were going to face trial, while six have been absconding.
The police filed a 500 page chargesheet with 76 witnesses in the case.
After the Calangute Police filed chargeagainst the listed accused persons, arguments were heard before the Fast Track Court in Mapusa and on Thursday, the court ordered framing of charges against the accused.
The trial court observed, “If the entire chargesheet is perused including the disclosure panchanama and the recovery, the statements of the witnesses, the statements of victims, the hurt certificates and the manner in which the offence is allegedly committed by the accused it reveals a very strong suspicion against all the accused for having been members of an unlawful assembly armed with deadly weapons and thus, committed the offence as alleged.”
Meanwhile, the High Court has granted bail to Gajendra Singh alias Chotu Pal and Rahul Rathod who are two of the several accused in the case.
