MAPUSA: Nilesh Naik, a member of the Assonora Panchayat, tragically died on Sunday night in a self-accident.
On his Bullet motorcycle, Naik, who represented Ward 7 of the Assonora Panchayat, was involved in the fatal accident while riding home from Sirsaim.
Police investigations state that the collision happened at approximately 5 p.m. while Naik was traveling to Assonora.
According to reports, he lost control of his bike and collided with his home’s cement compound wall.
The motorcycle sustained considerable damage from the incident, including a twisted front tire, a shattered front headlight, and a broken shock absorber tube.
Naik was immediately rushed to the district hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Police performed a panchanama after the event, and the body was subsequently sent to Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim for additional treatment.
Sources revealed that Naik had attended a gram sabha meeting earlier in the day. Upon learning about the accident, panchayat members and family members rushed to the hospital.
The Colvale police have registered the case and are conducting further investigations into the incident.
