CANACONA: PWD’s apathy has converted a section of NH-66 road a death-trap to the unsuspecting highway motorists in Canacona.
A huge trench dug-out sorts of pothole has developed posing a serious threat to the highway motorists on NH-66 road at Gulem section.
Many unsuspecting motorists especially two-wheelers gets a sudden jerk after their falls into the 2-metres long horizontel trench pothole that draws sharp criticism from motorists coming in opposite direction.
‘Its a death trap by any measures. Due to this damaged road, apparently caused due to a ruptured water pipeline lying diagonally across the road, is creating imminent dangers of accidents at the site. As motorists plying towards Canacona tend to keep themselves to their right side to avoid falling into this death-trap, and faces dangers of hitting an oncoming vehicles informed a motorist.
According to sources, PWD(water supply) were seen often working to repair the water pipeline frequently getting ruptured. As the pipeline is kept exposed, it gets ruptured everytime a vehicle passes over it. And as the trench like pothole is kept open, the continous flow of water and the traffic makes it more vulnerable day by day worsening it even more.
Both,the sections of PWD should be held responsible for converting this highway section a death trap to motorists. Due to a service road accross this Highway’ the section has already witnessed a series of accidents in the past and not attending this damaged road is an open invitation for the accidents to happen’, complained another car-borne motorist, who while trying to avoid the pothole, just missed hitting an oncoming truck heading towards Margao, near Sudarshan Hotel at Gulem.
