CALANGUTE: In a bid to provide quality tourism, the Calangute Panchayat led by Joseph Sequeira sealed two properties for allegedly running as dance bars in the village jurisdiction.
As per recent reports, numerous incidents of touts cheating tourists of large amounts of money by making false promises were reported.
As per information, Three Kings and Devil’s Club, which had been allegedly running as dance bars, were sealed by the panchayat late at night.
Calangute Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira informed that the panchayat is very firm against acting against illegal activities in the village, and the sealing of the dance bars was testimony to it.
“Calangute panchayat will not tolerate any such nonsense activities in the village. We will go after all such illegal dance bars. We request the villagers to take up good business activities and not fall prey to illegal business activities,” said Sequeira.
The Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, along with Calangute Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira and all the panchayat members of Calangute, had met Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on various issues of tourism, one being illegal dance bars.
The MLA and the Sarpanch had also appealed to the CM to take action against the touts and illegal dance bars in Calangute.
“These illegal activities have to stop. All the dance bars should be immediately stopped. The panchayat has given them a licence only for restaurants, but they have misused the licence,” Lobo said.
Lobo said that the panchayat should take immediate action against the dance bars by writing to the BDO and sealing the place.
As per the letter given to Chief Minister by Micheal Lobo, there are various illegal clubs, dance bars, and massage parlours operating in the Calangute area, and there are various touts and pimps who are operating and promoting all types of illegal businesses.
