PANAJI: Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant on Thursday laid the foundation stone for the new Goa Police Headquarters building in Panaji, a ₹45-crore project aimed at strengthening police infrastructure and enhancing law enforcement capabilities in the state.
The Chief Minister said the upcoming headquarters will be a modern, future-ready facility equipped to meet the evolving needs of policing and public safety. He added that the government remains committed not only to laying foundation stones but also to ensuring the timely completion and inauguration of development projects. The new headquarters is expected to be completed within a year.
Describing the project as a significant step towards building a safer and more secure Goa, Dr. Sawant said the new facility would provide a well-equipped and efficient administrative centre for the police department, enabling better coordination and delivery of services.
Addressing concerns related to law and order, Director General of Police (DGP) Alok Kumar asserted that the police department would maintain a strict stance against misconduct and indiscipline within its ranks. He said any mistake, misconduct, or indiscipline by police personnel would be dealt with firmly and appropriate action would be taken without delay.
“No such incidents will be repeated. Departmental action will be initiated in all such cases and strict measures will be ensured,” the DGP said, adding that supervising officers have been directed to maintain close and effective oversight of personnel. He emphasized that any form of improper conduct within the police force would not be tolerated.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister once again appealed to house owners and landlords across the state to ensure mandatory police verification of tenants. He said tenant verification plays a crucial role in crime prevention and urged property owners to comply with the requirement.
Dr. Sawant cautioned that failure to carry out tenant verification could result in avoidable complications in the future and stressed the need for greater public cooperation with law enforcement agencies to maintain peace and security in the state.
The event underscored the government’s dual focus on strengthening police infrastructure and enhancing public participation in crime prevention measures, with authorities reiterating their commitment to maintaining law and order across Goa.
