PORVORIM: A heated exchange took place in the Goa Assembly between GFP MLA Vijai Sardesai and Industries Minister Mauvin Godinho over the allotment and transfer of industrial plots by the Goa Industrial Development Corporation (IDC).
Sardesai alleged that 326 IDC plots were transferred between 2021 and 2026 under the Ease of Doing Business initiative, claiming that the process caused an estimated loss of ₹61 crore to the corporation.
Questioning the changes in eligibility criteria for industrial plot bidders, Sardesai demanded that a House Committee be constituted to examine the alleged irregularities in the IDC.
Sardesai also directly challenged Godinho, saying he would expose the alleged irregularities and making a political statement about his own electoral contest if he failed to do so.
Godinho strongly defended the government’s decision to relax the financial eligibility criteria, saying the move was intended to remove barriers for investors and attract industries to Goa.
The Industries Minister maintained that the changes were made with the objective of promoting investment and creating a more favourable environment for industrial development.
