PANAJI: Persistent rain brought the Goa and Gujarat Men’s Under-23 Multidays Practice League encounter to an early conclusion, with the match ending in a draw at Gujarat College Cricket Ground A in Ahmedabad on Thursday.
Gujarat dominated the opening stages of the contest, posting an imposing 471 for nine declared in their first innings. Raj Raghwani led the batting effort with an impressive 196, while Kavyan Patel contributed a valuable 65 to strengthen Gujarat’s total.
Goa faced early difficulties in their reply, losing two wickets for just 22 runs. However, captain Aryan Narvekar responded with a determined half-century, scoring 50 off 79 deliveries. His innings included six boundaries and one six, helping Goa recover from their poor start.
By the end of the second day, Goa had reached 144 for five after 57 overs. Dishank Prabhu Misquin remained unbeaten on 14, while Jeevan Chittem was not out on 21 as Goa looked to build a stronger response to Gujarat’s substantial first innings total.
However, the weather intervened on the final day, with persistent rain preventing any play. The complete washout eliminated Goa’s opportunity to extend their innings and Gujarat’s chance to put pressure on their opponents and pursue a possible victory.
Goa’s bowling attack had earlier managed to make inroads, with Rahul Vishwakarma and Anuj Yadav claiming three wickets each. Deep Kasvankar also contributed with two wickets during Gujarat’s innings.
With no further action possible on the third day, the match concluded without a winner, leaving Gujarat with a strong batting performance and Goa with unfinished business in their first innings.
