Panaji: Raj Raghwani delivered a spectacular unbeaten century to put Gujarat in a commanding position against Goa on the opening day of the Men’s U-23 Multidays Practice League Match at Gujarat College Cricket Ground A.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Gujarat suffered an early setback when Maulyarajsinh Chavda was dismissed for a duck in the first over. However, Malay V Shah and Manas Dave steadied the innings with valuable contributions of 70 and 51, respectively.
Goa’s bowling attack responded strongly during the middle phase of the innings, picking up regular wickets and reducing Gujarat to 210/7. Rahul Vishwakarma, Deep Kasvankar and Anuj Yadav claimed two wickets each as Goa looked to restrict the hosts to a manageable total.
Gujarat, however, staged a remarkable recovery, led by Raj Raghwani. The batter produced an attacking masterclass, remaining unbeaten on 142 from 150 deliveries. His innings featured 10 fours and seven sixes, allowing Gujarat to accelerate significantly during the final stages of the day.
Raghwani found an ideal partner in Kavyan Patel, who remained unbeaten on 59 off 97 balls. The duo produced a stunning unbeaten partnership of 173 runs for the eighth wicket, transforming Gujarat’s position and taking their total to 383/7 in 90 overs at stumps.
Goa’s bowlers faced a challenging final session as Gujarat’s lower-order resistance turned into a powerful counterattack. Anuj Yadav finished with two wickets for 138 runs, while Deep Kasvankar returned figures of 2/61 and Rahul Vishwakarma claimed 2/45.
With Gujarat finishing the day on 383/7, Goa will begin their innings on Day 2, looking to build a strong response against a confident home side.
