New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a 15 member squad for the upcoming two match Test series against Sri Lanka, with experienced all rounder Ravindra Jadeja returning to the side and Madhya Pradesh all rounder Saransh Jain receiving his maiden Test call up.
Shubman Gill will continue to captain the side, with KL Rahul named vice captain. The squad also includes Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal and Dhruv Jurel, while the bowling attack features Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Kuldeep Yadav, Manav Suthar and Gurnoor Brar.
However, the participation of Jasprit Bumrah and Sai Sudharsan remains subject to fitness clearance from the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence before the series begins.
India will be without spin bowling all rounder Washington Sundar for the opening Test after he suffered an injury during the recent white ball tour of England. His absence adds to India’s injury concerns, with Harshit Rana and Nitish Kumar Reddy also unavailable for the series.
Harshit Rana sustained a hamstring injury during the third T20 International against England in Nottingham earlier this month, while Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out after aggravating a left quadriceps injury ahead of India’s tours of Ireland and England.
The Indian team will begin its preparations with a four day practice match in Colombo starting on August 7 before travelling to Galle for the opening Test.
The first Test of the series will be played at Galle International Cricket Stadium from August 15 to 19. The second and final Test will take place at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo from August 23 to 27.
India’s Test squad: Shubman Gill (Captain), KL Rahul (Vice Captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant (Wicketkeeper), Sai Sudharsan, Dhruv Jurel (Wicketkeeper), Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Manav Suthar, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar, Devdutt Padikkal and Saransh Jain.
